Creative, energetic and forward-thinking, Ngoc Lan is a Swiss DJ who transcends musical borders with her strong technical skills, unique and eclectic records collection and communicative enthusiasm.
Born in Switzerland but originally from Vietnam, Ngoc Lan began her relationship with music at an early age through piano and opera lessons taken at the Conservatory of Music. In 2002, she moved to NYC and had the opportunity to work for the Rawkus hip hop label. Two years later, back in Switzerland, she acquired new creative weapons : two turntables, a mixer and a lot of records. Hip hop, beats, house, electronica : a broad and sharp selection, reflecting her strong musical culture.
In 2010 she reached the 3rd place as the best party rocker in Switzerland in the Red Bull Thre3Style contest. In 2011, she mixed a selection for Creaked Records in partnership with Obey and launched a tribute to J-Dilla called “Do The Dilla”, a collaboration with Food for ya Soul, Feelin’ Music and DTRP. For its second edition, this compilation reached the first hip hop rank popularity on Bandcamp. Moreover, Ngoc Lan was also chosen by renowned artists such as Illa J, Yarah Bravo, Tommy Genesis or Grems to act as their support DJ.
With over fifteen years experience as a DJ playing in venues such as Montreux Jazz Festival, The Henz Club, Worldwide Festival or Le Mellotron, Ngoc Lan has today her own show called Astrolab on the national radio Couleur 3 since September 2017; a way to explore black music and experiment with electronica, jazz, hip hop and psychedelic rock.
Praised by her peers, she was shortlisted as one of the 3 Best Open Format DJ by the Swiss Nightlife Award in 2016 and in March 2018 she was member of the Demotape Clinic jury for the M4Music Festival in Zürich.
